About Me

My name is Gordan and this blog is a little glimpse into my world of delicious food that I prepare for my family.

I always liked to cook and as my children were growing up I got motivated even more. It was one thing to try to talk them out of the fast food craze that kids of their age were consuming routinely and quite another to offer them an alternative that they would accept. My thought was very simple, if I show them how much better tasting and fulfilling homemade food is, they will be easier to convince to abandon kid meal’s, chicken fingers, donuts and alike. It worked.

My childhood days at the Dalmatian coast were filled with play, joy and Mediterranean scents. Summers were hot, winters were mild and food was glorious. Without exception, meals were made daily from fresh, seasonal and locally grown ingredients. From early days I got to appreciate the value of good food that is simple to prepare and distinctly tasty.

Summers would come with freshly picked soft skinned figs, shiny bright red tomatoes, intense smell of garlic and parsley coming from fish barbecued over the embers of dry grapevines. First cold winds would bring on smoked meats, sausages, sauerkraut, sour cabbage rolls, tongue biting hard and soft cheeses, and crusty rustic breads.

Those memories never faded.

Shortly after graduating from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, I moved to Canada and that is where my home is.

I love any well prepared and tasty dish but my favorites are Mediterranean and Balkan cuisines. I love to make sour dough breads, pitas, pastas, casseroles, barbecued meats, and delicious deserts. I prefer traditional recipes, those that survived the test of time.

I use basic, simple ingredients: olive oil, free range eggs, organic meat, pure butter, real vanilla, and good quality chocolate.

Finally, I believe anybody can cook. All anyone needs is a desire, patience and love for making a food. Lots of love. The rest is in the recipe.
